Where watercolour meets printmaking! Tips, tricks and shortcuts – the easy way to do Japanese style woodcutting! We will take this ancient art and make it into something fun, accessible and simple to do. This technique is a simplified version of Japanese Woodblock printing based on the work of the American ‘Provincetown Printers’, and is known as Whiteline Woodcut. It produces delicate multi-coloured prints cut from a single plate of wood...it is a very gentle process both in terms of producing the plates & prints and the look of the finished work itself.

We will create designs then carve them into Japanese ply, creating an outline within which to print. Inking is done by hand with watercolours or gouache and produces attractive subtle prints. This is a gentle and absorbing printing technique suitable for beginners & experienced alike and is a perfect technique for printing at home, requiring a minimum of space & equipment.

All tools and wood will be provided and printing will be done with watercolour paints. No experience needed – lots of demos and individual help in this fun and informal workshop.
